Andrew B. Cubitt, Ph.D.Dr. Cubitt is a registered patent agent at Nevrivy Patent Law Group. Throughout his career, he has focused on new technology development, drug discovery, and the creation and protection of intellectual property. During his academic career he worked with Roger Tsien at the Howard Hughes Research Institute, where he worked on the use of rational design and random mutagenesis approaches to produce brighter and more spectrally distinguishable mutants of the green fluorescent protein (GFP). This work formed part of the basis of the research that was recognized by the 2008 Nobel prize for chemistry awarded to Osmamu Shimomura, Martin Chalfie, and Roger Tsien for the discovery and development of GFP. Dr. Cubitt's research on GFP has been published in leading scientific journals including Nature and Science and he is an inventor on 13 issued U.S. patents directed to this technology. Dr. Cubitt has 14 years of experience working in the biotechnology industry, both as a scientist and in senior management roles. Since joining Aurora Biosciences Corporation in 1996, Dr. Cubitt has held a variety of positions at various companies, including X-Ceptor Therapeutics and Ambit Biosciences Corporation, with responsibility for protecting, in-licensing and the commercial development of new technologies directly associated with drug discovery. In 2005, Dr. Cubitt co-founded AnaptysBio, Inc., a San Diego-based company, where he played a key role in establishing the core technology platform for human antibody discovery and optimization and implementing an intellectual property strategy, which enabled the company to successfully raise over 37 million dollars in funding. |
